Instagram Reels video duration has been expanded to 60 seconds, according to the company. Previously, viewers could pick between 15-second and 30-second video length limits, but now a significantly greater time limit is also accessible. Furthermore, Instagram is introducing new safeguards for teenage users by defaulting them to private accounts and making it more difficult for potentially suspicious accounts to discover young people on the platform. It will also send push reminders to current teenage users enticing them to make their profiles private.
The social media platform announced the extension of video duration for Reels on Twitter. Instagram users will be able to create up to 60-second Reels. TikTok, Reels’ archrival, recently increased its restriction to 3 minutes to provide its artists the ability to create significantly longer and more varied material without compromising the platform’s fast-flipping nature.

Instagram has also announced that it will be implementing new security measures to make teenagers’ social media experiences safer. It automatically enrols new members under the age of 16 (18 in some countries) in private accounts. Only those who follow you can view your posts, Stories, and Reels if you have a private account. Random people will be unable to comment on their content, and posted content is not visible in sections such as Explore and hashtag.
For young people who currently have a public Instagram account, it will display a notification emphasising the benefits of a private account and instructing them on how to modify their privacy settings. “We’ll continue to provide young people the option of switching to a public account or keeping their current account public if they prefer,” the firm writes on its blog.
All of these changes make it more difficult for potentially suspicious accounts to identify young people and limit advertisers’ ability to target young people.
