It will be almost a year in November 2021 since Star Plus is airing the serial Imlie on TV. Imlie shows the story of three characters: Imlie played by Sumbul Touqeer Khan, Aditya played by Gashmeer Mahajani, and Malini by Mayuri Deshmukh. It is when Aditya visits a village for covering a report, misunderstandings happen between him and the villagers and he gets married off to a smart village girl Imlie who is just 18 years old.

On reaching the city, Aditya tells Imlie to go back as he is already engaged to Malini and will be soon marrying her. However, Imlie doesn’t want to leave her husband from a forced marriage and follows him to his home where she lives as a naukraani or servant. Aditya gets married to Malini and all is well until some incidents happen wherein Imlie steps as a protector for Aditya thus making him realize his love for her.

Aditya decides to confess to Malini that he is already married to Imlie and eventually Imlie gets to know the hidden truth that she is the step-sister of Malini. Aditya and Imlie were happy to get united but were faced backlash by society and even Aditya’s family who don’t accept Imlie as their daughter-in-law because she is a naukraani. A lot of episodes show how a decent family (her in-laws) thinks that the servant-class don’t have the right to upgrade themselves, study ahead, get a new job and even find a life partner from their above status.
However, Imlie fights all these stereotypes by being bold and brave every time she is faced with a hurdle by Malini and her evil mother Mrs. Chaturvedi. The current track shows how Imlie gets trapped in a women-trafficking case where women are trained to become servants so that they could be sold off to foreign countries where there are no maids to help at all. It will be interesting to watch how Imlie really works hard to get out of the scam, expose the fraudsters and even redefine the importance of servants, maids in people’s lives and give them a prominent place in society.
