Everything you need to know about Jalsa

You may wonder what is Iqbal Khan doing nowadays had you not seen the Amazon Prime Video trailer of the flick Jalsa. I was stunned to learn that he is featuring in a film opposite Bollywood diva Vidya Balan who also shares the screen with mind-blowing actress Shefali Shah. The film Jalsa has been directed by Suresh Triveni and the story revolves around a girl who gets hit by a car and the person in question has run away without even helping the unknown girl.

For Shefali Shah, ‘Jalsa’ is a film that comes from the heart, not the mind

As the trailer shows it is a high-profile case, the film has much more to offer to us than just the case. Vidya plays a bold and ethical journalist Maya Menon and Shefali works as domestic help Ruksana for Vidya in the film who takes care of Vidya’s disabled son in the movie. The film shows how Maya has to face her own principles as she unawarely hits and runs away from the scene a girl Alia who is none other than Ruksana’s daughter.

Vidya Balan’s ‘Jalsa’ heads to OTT for world premiere

Maya wants to know the truth. However, after she did the hit-and-run accident, she is left with her own self who is questioning her values and principles. While she is trying to accept her actions, she also tries to get rid of the guilt from her mind by admitting Alia to a very costly hospital and making sure that she gets the required treatment. So, in a way, Maya herself tries to make use of money to get rid of the case, which is what the viewer can notice.

In the meanwhile, Ruksana gets approached by a few constables who try to convince her to get done with the case and close the matter. Another sub-plot gets shown up when a young journalist Rohini George (played by Vidhatri Bandi) tries to work on the case to find its loopholes. Even as she works under Maya only, she continues to dig further into the story to understand the key people behind the hit and run case. Rohini catches hold of two constables who she thinks are working on the best orders of their boss. However, it gets revealed that the cops don’t have a boss and were working to cover up their guilt as they were on the same spot of the accident just an hour before. They had taken a small bribe from a local politician’s men in order to mount his hoardings just ahead of his birthday.

Even the cops don’t have any idea about Maya’s involvement in the hit and run case and thus, decide to close the case. But to ensure that the victim’s family gets justice, they decide to open the file. Maya gets the entire picture and the evidence that shows what she had done to her maid’s daughter that could have ended up in a murder. As Alia recovers well, Ruksana gets to know the truth. Maya resigns from her job and reaches out to Ruksana who had just run away with her disabled son. The film’s ending is the revenge of Ruksana or the imagination of Maya about her son is what is left to the audience to review.
