Are two heroines fighting for a hero the new trend on television?

I have been keeping track of the current television serials that are quite funnier than in earlier times. Funnier word is a way of sarcasm to show how storylines are being written revolving around one hero and two heroines fighting for the guy. Take the example of the serial Udariyaan aired on Colors TV. It has Jasmine and Tejo, real sisters who are stuck with one guy Fateh in their lives.

Fateh loves Jasmine but she loves Canada. In a turn of events, Tejo marries Fateh and they both develop a bond. But Jasmine jealous of her sister’s happy life comes back to Fateh’s life and makes him realize he still loves Jasmine. With Tejo and Jasmine now living in the same house, Fateh keeps getting confused over his relations with his wife and lover.

The serial Imlie had a good storyline when the makers introduced us to Imlie who is a gaon ki chori but not gawar. Imlie was shown to have ambitions to get educated and become a police officer. However, in a turn of events, she gets forcefully married to Aditya Kumar Tripathi who was already engaged to Malini, a professor by profession. Imlie and Aditya don’t reveal their marriage to anyone in Aditya’s family and thus he gets married to Malini.

But later, Aditya develops love feelings for Imlie as he realizes that Malini was only his habit but not the love of his life. It also gets revealed that Imlie and Malini are step-sisters. Now with Imlie and Malini fighting to get their rights in Aditya’s life, it is getting dirtier with Malini getting pregnant with Aditya’s child making him unconscious. Malini’s rich mother adds so much poison in her mind that she wants Aditya back in her life by hook or crook.

Other serials like Kumkum Bhagya, Kundali Bhagya, Bhagya Laxmi, Anupamaa, Meet also are dealing with one hero and two heroines plot. Is it because there are more new actresses on the television? Or is it because the number of male children is going down in the country that serial makers are forced to have two girls with one boy ratio for a romantic tale?
