Things you need to know about Careers in Translation

Translation is a job in which a person learns a particular language and translates the written and oral content to a language that he is an expert at. For example, if a person is well-versed with Hindi and English, then he or she can read or listen to the Hindi language and translate it into English by writing or speaking it in English without changing the context and keeping the meaning of the Hindi language the same while presenting it into English.

For example, main ek lekhak hun is a Hindi sentence that a translator has to interpret correctly and write or speak as I am a writer while translating Hindi to the English language. Translation involves understanding the grammar, culture, and nuances of both the Hindi and English languages in order to keep the translation and interpretation intact and appropriate. People who are experts in translation can even convert complex and difficult phrases properly without changing their actual meaning.

Translators are in high demand nowadays as everyone wants to learn other languages or know what is being shared in different languages throughout the country and even the world. We live in an infodemic age where information from all sources of the world is appreciated to make informed and right decisions. In order to become a good translator, one must compulsorily have a 12th standard certificate and pursue a diploma or certificate or degree in the language they want to make their career in.

Different types of translator jobs include health or medical translators or interpreters, legal or judicial translators or interpreters, literary translators, sign language translators, conference interpreters among others. In order to become a successful translator, one has to know how to communicate with a wide variety of people, keep himself or herself ahead of time by being open to learning new things every now and then, and also be okay to accept criticism if things don’t go the right way.
