New Delhi. In order to promote skill development at the district level, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship today signed an agreement with IIM Bangalore to run a two-year Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship Program (MGNF).
On this occasion, P. Subrahmanyam, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Dr. KP Krishnan, Secretary, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, G.I. Director, IIM Bangalore. Raghuram, World Bank Director in India Junaid Ahmed and officials of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship were present. The program has been developed under the efficient guidelines and leadership of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dr. Mahendranath Pandey, who since joining the ministry has worked on focusing skill development at the district level.
The objective of this fellowship is to face the challenge of non-availability of human resources for implementation at the national, state and district levels.
Under the MGNF program, arrangements have been made to provide hands-on experience at the ground level with the district administration. The program has been started in a pilot phase in 75 districts of Gujarat, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Qualified fellows under the program should be Indian citizens in the age group of 21 to 30 years holding a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Proficiency in the official language of the state with field work is mandatory.
In his address on the occasion, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Secretary Dr. KP Krishnan said that we are confident that a large number of youth will be attracted towards the program, which will enable us to further strengthen the skill potential at the district administration level. Secretary in Higher Education Department R Subrahmanyam said that today the youth of the country wants to cooperate towards nation building.
