Samagra Shiksha Scheme Extension Approved by Cabinet

Today, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the Union Cabinet has authorised the Samagra Shiksha Scheme for School Education from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2026.The plan would be implemented with a budgetary allocation of Rs 2,94,283.04 crore, including a federal share of Rs 1,85,398.32 crore. The scheme aims to promote educational growth right from the beginning. Starting from pre-primary kindergarten, it covers all the way to senior secondary schools.

The Samagra Shiksha programme aims to bring a substantial portion of children under its cover providing education to over 150 million students. The scheme aims to cover over 1 million schools, and 5 million educators in government and aided institutions. The Samagra Shiksha Scheme 2.0 intends to provide universal access to school education, promote equality by including underprivileged groups and underserved sectors, and improve educational quality at all levels of schooling.

The Samagra Shiksha plan is a comprehensive school-education programme. The plan takes a holistic approach to education and is per the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal for Education (SDG-4). Along with assisting in implementing the RTE Act, the Samagra Shiksha Scheme has been aligned with NEP 2020 recommendations to ensure that all children have equitable and inclusive access to quality education. The scheme also promotes an equitable and inclusive classroom environment that considers diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs, and academic abilities and encourages them to be active participants.

According to a government release, the scheme’s second edition would feature an effective convergence architecture with different Ministries and developmental agencies of the federal and state governments.

The growth of vocational education will be coordinated with financing provided by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and other Ministries. The existing infrastructure of schools, ITIs, and polytechnics will be utilised to guarantee that the facilities are used to their full potential, not just for school-aged children but also for children who are not in school.
