Major challenges to overcome as a freelancer

EducationMajor challenges to overcome as a freelancer

Date:

You may think being the boss and working alone in your own office or home is one of the best perks of a freelancer if you are in permanent or contractual jobs. However, being a freelancer has its own challenges that only those working in the freelancing world know the reality. Here are some of them that I have experienced as a freelancer for the last 10 years.

Tips for pricing better as a freelancer

1) Getting new clients:

If you have been getting a regular flow of projects then you have the security of your freelancing career. However, it is not so for all freelancers. Many freelancers don’t get regular work projects and that makes them keep searching for new clients every now and then. There is a no-work period for freelancers that makes them vulnerable at times and feel a lack of finances. It becomes contesting for freelancers to get new clients if they don’t have the required communication and convincing skills.

2) Being responsible for your work:

You take ownership of your work and that makes you the boss of your company. If there is any error or mistake in your work, then you become liable to pay the losses. You need to understand how to juggle the work if you have multiple projects. If you take a strict schedule of work, you can manage your personal and professional responsibilities well. If you take your work lightly, you will miss out on a lot of existing projects and you will not be able to get more work or build a reputation for your business in the market.

3) Being confident about your business at all times:

You may have received a lot of criticism from your ex-client and even have been backlashed online by your followers. However, that shouldn’t stop you from being confident about your work. You are the face of your brand that you are developing as a freelancing career. You can give productive work or you can even remove the fake clients from your list, that’s your difficult decision to be taken. However, you need to be strong when you meet clients in your career who are too demanding or don’t clear the payments on time.

4) Quote the right pricing for your work:

Giving minimum rates to clients just because you don’t feel confident and assured about your work will not help you in the long run. You need to research about what is the trending rates in the market and quote your final price for your work accordingly. You also have to know how to justify the pricing for your work. You cannot just do free work as well if you know your clients for many years because that is against the other freelancers who work hard to reach wherever they are.

5) Manage the uncertainty of your career:

Freelancing is all about managing your anxiety in uncertain situations. You need to be prepared for the days when there will be a lot of work and you don’t even have the time for your personal commitments. Whereas, there will be months when you are just sitting idle and don’t know what to do during your working hours.
