Today is Civil Services Day. Want to know why is the day so special for the government of India? Well, because the day is a chance for the people working in the civil department to take a vow again to ensure that they are committed to excellence while they serve the public. Civil Services Day has been selected to be celebrated on 21st April since 1947. It was during the same year when the first Home Minister of our independent country India Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the people working as the Administrative Services Officers at Metcalf House in Delhi. The first event in the honor of this day had taken place on 21st April in the year 2006 in New Delhi at the Vigyan Bhawan venue. The day’s observation is done by organizing The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration that have been given to districts or units in the categories of innovation and priority programme implementation. Every year on the Civil Services Day, the awards bring about a gathering of all the civil workers who perform best in their field. It gives them the opportunity to network and helps them learn the top practices of different fields in taking care of public grievances that are implemented all over the nation.
