The Iron Lady of India – Late Smt. Indira Gandhi marked her 105th birth anniversary on 19 November 2022, Saturday. It was 19 November 1917 when Indira Gandhi was born in Prayagraj. She was named Indira Priyadarshini Nehru and she changed her surname to Gandhi after marrying Feroze Gandhi. Indira Gandhi was a popular Indian politician and the main figure of the Indian National Congress. She served as the third prime minister of India and the first and only female prime minister of the country. Indira Gandhi was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru who was the first prime minister of India and his wife Kamala Nehru. She was assassinated on 31 October 1984 in her home in New Delhi. She was killed by her bodyguards as they were wanting to take revenge for Operation Blue Star where many people from the Sikh community were killed. She was survived by two children – Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi. Her grandchildren are Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Varun Gandhi.
