IITs convocation ceremonies go digital

With the coronavirus pandemic hitting the country hard, the educational institutes are leaving no stones unturned in ensuring students celebrate their success.

Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are combining real and digital to hold their convocation ceremonies.

It means students’ digital avatars are being created by the IITs that show them receiving degrees on a virtual stage.

IIT-Madras is organizing a special convocation by using mixed reality technology in which physical and digital objects are used at the same time to interact in a lively manner.

The institute is going to hold 57th convocation by making use of the technology where the real and virtual are combined to give an online virtual experience for the audience.

In August, when IIT-Bombay had conducted its convocation using technology to give awards to students, Prime Minister Narnedra Modi had tweeted to appreciate the efforts.

“Wonderful mix of tradition and technology! An interesting convocation at @iitbombay. Great effort. Congrats to the Class of 2020! I fondly recall my visit to this brilliant institution for the convocation in August 2018,” Modi had tweeted.
