How to select the right company for a new job?

Having worked with 10 small-scale companies who claimed to be “startups” but really didn’t have any proper plan or structure in place, I have realized that the company you get associated with has a lot of value in your career. If you are someone who is struggling in your job due to the reasons you know the best, understand that sending a resignation letter to end your association is not the first step.

You need to first research well about the jobs that are available in the market currently. You need to know what package each of the job postings that have mentioned the job listing is willing to offer to the new candidates. We need to accept the fact that we live in the coronavirus times where nothing is fixed and whatever is happening is all temporary by nature. We cannot all of a sudden get a job and neither leave a job.

If you are feeling uncomfortable with your current job, list down the reasons that make you feel so and talk to your HR manager to find out an alternate solution to your problems. If your problems are not major and you can still stick around with your current company for a year or more, then nothing like it. But if you are finding it quite hectic, then first analyze the job roles that you would like to take up in another organization.

Remember you need to first find out how your future company has earned its name in the last 10 years to understand its financial strength. In order to know how the company offers benefits to its employees or takes care of their well-being, you need to connect with few people who work in the company on LinkedIn or any social media site. Once you get the offer from a new job, be very clear of how much you can negotiate in terms of salary, working hours, and future projects. Once that clarity is achieved, then only go ahead and accept the new job offer.
