How to deal with rejections in job interviews

EducationHow to deal with rejections in job interviews

Date:

“Sorry, sir, you have not been shortlisted for this role, better luck next time.”

“Sorry, mam, the position has been closed. We will get back to you when the new job listing opens up.”

Are you tired of listening to or reading such emails from prospective employers or HR Managers? Well, you are not the only one who has faced rejections from the job interviews today or last week, or last month. There are thousands or lakhs of candidates who don’t get selected for jobs every day. But there is one secret mantra that they follow till they get the job and that is – they don’t give up.

No tax up to Rs 10 lakh received from employer for Covid treatment

If you are quite disappointed with the way things are going in today’s times on your job rejection, never lose hope. There are many things out there in the world that leads the employer to not select you for the job. But that doesn’t mean the end of the world. It simply means that the skills that the employer is looking for to fulfill the job role are not in you. It very well doesn’t mean you lack the skills but you lack their expectations to fit in the role.

Got a job? Here is what you should do next

So, what next? You need to look for better jobs in your job search. You need to be confident and positive even if it has been three months or six months or a year that you are unemployed. Instead of breaking your heads on the fact that you have been rejected for the job role or not selected or shortlisted for the further interview rounds, you can simply keep yourself distracted with productive and engaging things that will enhance your career.

For example, you can join online courses or distance learning programs that fit your budget. You can improve your verbal and written communication skills so that your employer is able to understand what you are trying to say and how well you can fit in the job. If you have good skills, you can simply focus on improving your portfolio and interview pitch. You can even check out some interview sessions online so that you can be prepared with the most possible questions asked in the interview.

You can read some informative and motivational books during the time you are sitting in the office for your interview rounds. You can also make notes of what the employer is trying to say when he is interviewing you. You can be open to suggestions from the HR manager or employers so that for the next interview at some other company, you can be better equipped and ready with the interview answers.

If listening to NO has become frustrating for you, you can consult a career counselor who can tell you exactly where you are lagging behind and how you can upscale your career. Last but not the least, you can even take up some internship or unpaid work for the time being to keep yourself updated with the new skills in the current market or industry so that you can take that as a reference for your full-time role in the same company or some other.
