Amity organized national conference on “Drug Repurposing: Reinvent Recycle & Reuse”

Lucknow: Drug reuse and recycling are new terms in the field of pharmacy. Drug Reuse or recycling is the idea that health care organizations or consumers with unused drugs or expired date drug can transfer them in a safe and appropriate way to another consumer who needs them. Here one thing is to understand that expired drug does not mean that effecteness of the medicine is zero. It means that after the certain date the intended effect of that drug can not guaranteed. After a revalidation of the expired drug through authorized agency this could be done.

That was the words of Mr. D K Tiwari, Assistant Commissioner (Drug), Food Safety & Drug Administration Government of Uttar Pradesh who ware addressing at National Conference on “Drug Repurposing: Reinvent Recycle & Reuse” as Chief Guest.

This two day national conference was organized by Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow Campus.

Mr. Tiwari said further that concept of Drug reuse and recycling are very difficult but not impossible. He said that in the eyes of Law every drug is approved for a specific purpose. For each and every change in that manufacturer has to take new approval from Government.

Before it Chief Guest D K Tiwari along with Dr. Sunil Dhaneshwar, Pro VC Amity Lucknow Campus, Dr. Qamar Rahman, Dean Research, Science & Technology, Amity Lucknow, Dr. Syed G Dastager, Senior Scientist, National Collection of Industrial Microorganisms, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, Wing Commander Dr. Anil Tiwari, Assistant Pro VC, Amity Lucknow Campus, and Dr. Suneela Dhaneshwar Director Amity Institute of Pharmacy & Deputy Dean Research (S & T), Amity Lucknow inaugurated the conference by lighting the lamp.

Dr. Suneela Dhaneshwar welcomed the guests. Giving an insite of the conference she said that the conference is to explore and investigate the possibilities of Reinvent Recycle & Reuse of existing drugs.

Dr. Qamar Rahman underlined the importance of drug repurposing and said that Nano technology could play an important role in drug delivery system in patient’s body.

Pro Vc Dr. Sunil Dhaneswar said that finding new a drug or molecule today is very difficult. No treatment is available till today to cure the Corona virus or Superbug infections. Success rate of treatment with existing drug is going down. He said that we have so many drug molecule and we have to explore the new uses of those.

More than 200 delegates from various universities, Experts, Researchers and scientists of Pharmacy field came across the country are participating in this conference.
