Education activists debate on declaring 2020 as zero academic year

In a webinar hosted recently by RTE forums, many education experts and activists debated about the effect of coronavirus on academics of students.

They debated on declaring 2020 as a zero academic year because of the shutdown of schools and colleges since March 2020 owing to the scare of coronavirus pandemic.

A lawyer and activist from Delhi suggested that parents of majority of the students are not in support of sending their children to schools if they are reopened this year because they do not want to risk their children’s lives.

A activist from West Bengal shared that the government should think about spending more on educational infrastructure in the country.

Due to coronavirus, the government had launched online classes and channels on television to impart education to children of class 1 to 10. However, many students and their parents are not satisfied with the current learning arrangement of online classes and shared their grievances.

The impact of digital learning in many parts of India is not that great as it can be used as an additional tool but not as the primary medium of learning, feel many.
