Job Rotation is an approach by the management of the company wherein they shift the employees to have more than two roles or functions at consistent periods of time so that they are aware of different roles in an organization. Job rotation can be said to be a well-planned approach with the goal to examine the skills and abilities of an employee just so that he or she is placed on the right job at the right time.
Job rotation also helps in reducing the boredom that comes when a person has to do the same job again and again for a long period of time. Job rotation also helps in giving more experience to the employees who gain various inputs about the various functions that exist to run the organization smoothly.
It also helps the employees to realize their hidden potential and is a win-win for both the company and the employees. Employees are able to explore what are their different interests when they perform different fields or operations at the workplace.
For example, an employee was hired as a content writer in a good media company for a said remuneration and a said period of contract. The employee was good at her job of providing regular content for the website and writing emails. This attribute of content creation in emails was seen by the management who thought that the content writer can also co-ordinate with the clients as her written communications are good. Then the employee was introduced to clients who give advertisements to the company to publish in their newspaper. Sooner or later, the employee developed good client relations and got more clients for sponsored content advertising. Looking at the employee’s confidence in dealing with clients and good marketing skills, the management also assigned the content writer to approach event organizers for getting into a barter media partnership that is a win-win for both the organization and the event organizers. Thus, the writer developed a good portfolio of writing content for the website, along with getting clients for sponsored content advertisements and getting the company publicity in events held in the city as well as the country.
