Integrity is the habit of being honest and transparent. It is the best way to follow ethical and moral practices and values. In the subject of Ethics, integrity is said to be honesty and truthfulness. It is the perfection of one’s behavior and actions. Integrity can be opposite to hypocrisy, which means judging the standards of integrity. The person who follows integrity has stability in his character and they are as per the values, beliefs, and principles that they have faith in.
Integrity is used in Politics, Law, and Psychological frameworks. Here we will discuss Integrity from the psychological discipline. So, if a person has low integrity, he will display behaviors of dishonesty and will find ways to justify his wrong actions. People with low integrity are the ones who commit crimes like theft, murder, etc. and that is the reason, prospective employers ask them to go through an integrity test if at all they want to get selected for a job post-their release from jail-term. Some people with low integrity have impulsive behavior and thus, they are quite authoritative and cunning too to prove their point over others.
Here is an example of Integrity. Let’s take the story of Sita and Gita. Sita was a honest leader in her organization who felt all employees are equal irrespective of their position, rank, and salary structure and thus, everyone has a chance to express their opinions and bring about a change in their workplace for the good. However, Gita, who was an employee of Sita’s organization was not at all honest with her actions and behaviors and whenever any error was made, she would blame her colleagues for not doing the work properly. Many people raised complaints about Gita to the management but every time Gita would plot some drama and make the management feel that their employees are incompetent. One day, Gita was caught red-handed for making the goof-ups by Sita who warned her that in case the same action is repeated, she would be fired right away from the organization. Gita understood the importance of integrity in one’s life and thus, started following a honest approach to her work and life’s decisions.
