What is Employability?

The term 'Employability' is used in varied ways with different meanings. Today we will discuss employability from the context of education. Employability is a set of skills, achievements, and personal qualities that makes graduates get better employment opportunities and accomplish success in their selected jobs. Employability is an advantage for the company, community, economy, and even the job seekers.
So, you need not think that employability is all about having a job but it is about the skillset and qualifications that will allow a graduate person to attain success throughout their job tenure. In order to be employable, one has to follow certain steps:
1) Be competitive:
If you are a graduate, you very well know that along with you, there are so many other students who have passed out from your college or university. In order to be a graduate, it is easier but in order to get a job, it becomes challenging if you lack the communication skills to tell your employer what you can do for them. Some employers may be interested in you because of your grades but the majority of the companies in the market don't work on academic knowledge alone. So, you need to have relevant knowledge, practical experience, and ideas to scale up your career when you meet your prospective employer.
2) Stay focused on your goals:
You may not be doing the right job if you take up any job opportunity that comes your way. The world of jobs and work is rapidly changing. You need to ensure that your career has something unique that will attract the right employer. Employability skills must teach you to adapt to every situation that you are exposed to rather than being rigid.
3) Improve your education levels:
Simply being a graduate will not help but learning from different methodologies and keeping a mix of learning skills can make a holistic learner. Consider volunteering, interning, and also taking up innovative courses to stay employable lifelong.
4) Don't follow news blindly:
At times, we get bogged down by the unemployment status of so many people all over the world or our state or city that we may get anxious about facing the same state in the nearby future. This is due to the growing economic changes happening in the post-pandemic world that businesses are unable to sustain with their business models. So, let's not focus on the negatives in the industry and rather keep focusing on what you are good at and how you can add value to the relevant job offer that comes your way.
5) Stay updated and alert:
When you ignore the recent headlines of job cuts or salary cuts, you also need to be updated with what is trending in the job market right now. You need to cross-analyze if you have the relevant skills that the employer requires to deal with the crisis, with new projects, and even with the changes that are going on in the economy. If you don't have that skillset, no problem as you have access to several online institutes that can give you a sneak peek of those capabilities at the budget you have.
