Survival Skills are the skills that one needs to learn and apply throughout their lives. Any skill or ability that helps one to carry out in their lives can be considered as life skills or survival skills. For example, tying shoelaces is taught to children right from their childhood because it is important for them to know how to tie shoelaces when they go to college, office, and so on. Similarly, speaking a particular language is a life skill or survival skill because without knowing how to express oneself with the help of a language, a person cannot communicate with others and lead a good normal life.
Driving a car, swimming, using computers or laptops or technology are also good life skills that come in handy when the need arises. Whenever any challenge occurs in one’s life, one needs to be prepared beforehand to deal with it. Thus, such life skills are useful for people like if a person wants to be rushed to a hospital and there are no public transport available at late night hours, then having and driving a car can help the person reach the hospital and get timely treatment. If a person goes through a transformational time in his office wherein everything gets computerized, knowing at least basic computer knowledge can help him upgrade the skills further.
There is no definite list of essential survival skills as it depends on your situations, culture, geographic location, age, etc. on what forms as the important life skills for you. However, certain areas need to be looked at like communication and interpersonal skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills, critical and creative thinking skills, self-awareness, empathy, assertiveness, self-control, resilience, and skill to overcome the problems have to be worked upon in timely basis to upgrade the life skills.
You can survive a bad relationship at the office or in your personal life if you know how to solve your problems in the most rational manner without giving up and always having hope to deal with life.
