Human values are narrated in different forms in human knowledge. We would often hear from people about a particular person’s set of values that has taken them to such a height of success. The real meaning of Value is stated here. Value comes from the Latin word Valere, which means to be of use or worth. The Oxford Dictionary says about the term VALUE as the worth, desirability, or utility of a thing.
Values are comprehensive in nature because human life is a journey and it has many phases or stages where our values help us to make the right decision. Value for a thing cannot be the same for every human and differs from person to person. For example, an old coin of 50 paise may be considered worthless by a person whereas, another one would think of it as a useful item for coins collection.
Values are not feelings or myths but they are concepts. Definitely, values are more than feelings because they exist in our minds and do not need public approval. Values are complete on their own and serve as the basis to judge a person good or bad, right or wrong. Values are based on emotions and help a person select the right thing to do for them in order to act or behave in a particular manner.
The five main human values are Love, Peace, Truth, Non-violence, and Right Conduct. These values are existing in every human being and it depends on individuals how they nurture these values to help them lead a righteous life ahead. Humanity thrives when these human values are focused upon or given more importance than materialism and practicalities in life. For example, during the coronavirus pandemic, we all should help each other as much as possible to deal with financial, emotional, and health crises like never before. It is these human values that will help us sustain humanity along with the right medicines, vaccination, precautionary measures, etc.
