Thiruvananthapuram: Colleges and universities, which were closed for more than 290 days due to the lockdown and other restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic, were partially opened in Kerala on Monday. Schools that have been closed since March have also been partially opened from January 1 and classes are being organized for students of class X and XII.

Strictly following the Covid protocol, a limited number of students arrived at over 1,350 higher educational institutions. The institutes that have been opened include College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, State Universities and the only Central University located at Kasargod in the state.

Classes have been resumed for undergraduate and postgraduate final year students. Thermal screening is being done in every institute, wearing of masks is mandatory, social distance law is being followed and campuses are being constantly sanitized. According to the instructions of the government, only 50 percent of the students were allowed to sit in every classroom and based on the number of students, shift arrangements have been started in many institutions.
