1) Do not keep checking your mobile:

Nowadays we live in the digital world. Everything has gone digital, from your grocery shopping to your children’s homework to be submitted online. Indeed smartphones have become a very vital part of our life that we cannot stay away from. But when you are in a job interview, please keep your mobile phone in SILENT mode. Do not check messages or notifications on social media when your employer really has some questions or wants you to share some important details about your life.

2) Avoid asking personal questions:

You will definitely be given a chance by your recruiter or prospective employer to ask certain questions that you may want to know about your job, company profile, job description, career growth, etc. So, your questions must be revolving around those topics and not by popping some personal questions like how long the recruiter has been working in the company, whether he or she is married or not, whether the company treats its employees well, or not, etc. These questions stand irrelevant especially during your initial rounds of the interview when you and your recruiter are just knowing each other professionally to check whether they can get you on board.

3) Do not call back the recruiter again and again:

Especially once your job interview is done, the recruiter or employer will call you or mail you within a week or 15 days’ time if they are interested to take your candidature forward. In case you don’t hear anything from them and despite your follow-up mail and call, you have been put on hold and are not getting any response for your job interview, please stop there immediately. Do not go beyond your limits and call the recruiter as you would be considered a spammy candidate who just wants to get back at the employer for a job that you need desperately.

4) Your answers should be neutral:

The employer may want to know why have you left your previous organization, so stop your thoughts of cribbing about your past employers. You can simply cut it short by saying that you are looking to grow in your career and your company didn’t support the ideas for career development. Never yawn and speak negatively about any of your previous colleagues or jobs. It shows you rigid or closed mind you are. Dress appropriately and maintain positive body language. Please reach your interview venue before the fixed time as it will show your time management skills and how much serious you are about your professional commitments.
