Pakistan approves Russian Sputnik V vaccine for emergency use

Islamabad: Pakistan government has approved the Russian Sputnik V vaccine for ’emergency use’ to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

As per the Government orders, a local pharmaceutical company has been given the rights for the import and distribution of the Sputnik V, a government official confirmed late Saturday.

Sputnik V is the third Covid-19 vaccine which has been approved for emergency use by the Pakistan government.

“In a meeting conducted by the registration board of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), another vaccine has also been given EUA (emergency use authorisation) which was developed with the backing of Russian Develop­ment Investment Fund,” Dawn quoted an unnamed government official as saying.

Prior to this, DRAP had authorised the Oxford University-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine and then the a Chinese Sinovac vaccine for emergency use.
