No Side Effects Are Found in Frontline Workers and Senior Citizens After Getting Booster Dose

Those over 60 with comorbidities, as well as frontline and healthcare professionals, are receiving precautionary doses of Covid-19. The government initiated a vaccination campaign for beneficiaries aged 15 to 17 years old earlier this month.

On Monday, India began giving a ‘precautionary dose’ of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccination to frontline workers and healthcare employees, as well as citizens with comorbidities aged 60 and up, after the fast-spreading Omicron variant fueled a six-fold increase in illnesses in the previous week.

On Monday, India reported 1,79,723 new cases, the majority of which were in the country’s largest cities – Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata – where Omicron has surpassed Delta as the most common virus strain.

The campaign has gone nationwide, with images from many states showing the eligible population getting the vaccine to protect them from the significantly mutated Omicron strain.

Hundreds of healthcare and frontline workers, including police officers, have been infected by the fast-spreading Omicron variety. Nearly 400 Parliament employees have tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the budget session, leading Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to assess the matter and order officials to reimpose attendance restrictions on employees.
