More than 300 journalist killed in second wave of Corona

New Delhi: In the second wave of Corona, the country lost many senior journalists. All journalists working in districts, towns and villages were also defeated in front of this deadly virus. According to a report by the Delhi-based Institute of Perception Studies, a total of 238 journalists have died due to corona infection from April 2020 to May 16, 2021.

The report states that 56 journalists died in the first wave of Corona from April 2020 to 31 December 2020, but the second wave proved to be more frightening. Between 1 April 2021 and 16 May, 171 journalists died. The remaining 11 journalists died between January and April.

There are 82 journalists’ names in the institute’s record, which have not been verified. According to the Network of Women in Media, India, about 300 journalists have also died due to Corona infection. A Google document is being shared widely on Twitter.

The report of the Institute of Perception Studies has included all those journalists who got corona infected while collecting news in the field or working in offices and lost their lives. These range from reporters of media institutions, stringers, freelancers, photo journalists and citizen journalists.

About 55 percent of the journalists who died of Corona infection were from print media, 25 percent from TV and digital media and 19 percent from freelance journalism.
