The Center issued on Saturday a list of characteristics to identify the validity of the vaccinations used in the country, with counterfeit Covishield vaccines circulating in worldwide market, a concern even expressed by the World Health Organization.
According to the Health Ministry, the criteria will aid in determining if the vaccine is authentic or counterfeit in a letter to the states. It was created using data from the company’s manufacture of Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik V, the three vaccines currently on the Indian market.

The vaccine manufacturer’s label, color, and other characteristics are included in the notice submitted to the states. Several recent reports suggest that counterfeit versions of Covishield, India’s primary anti-COVID-19 vaccination, have been discovered in Southeast Asia and Africa. According to media reports, some of the fake copies are also being marketed across the country.
A warning about falsified coronaviral vaccines has been issued by the World Health Organisations (WHO). The Government has launched an inquiry in response to these accusations. “Covishield is reported to have been replicated throughout the country. The Government of India considers this problem and acts if the accusations are correct”. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health stated last month.

Since vaccination drive the government has supplied 68 crore people with more than 62 lakh doses of vaccines on Saturday. India has conducted the most comprehensive COVID-19 vaccination programme in the world from 16 January this year.
