New Delhi: A 65-year-old man hailing from Hyderpora area of Srinagar has died, becoming the first fatality in Jammu and Kashmir due to COVID-19.
“As we share the sad news of our first #Covid19 fatality, my heart goes out to the family of the deceased. We stand with you and share your grief,” Mayor of Srinagar Junaid Azim Mattu tweeted.
Government spokesperson Rohit Kansal also confirmed the death via Twitter.
Total number of COVID19 positive cases reached 606 in India, including 553 active cases, 42 cured/discharged people and 10 deaths, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. The death toll has reached 10. As India enters day 2 of the nationwide lockdown, the government is expected to announce more measure to ease the stress on Indian citizens.
India has been placed under “complete lockdown” for the next 21 days to tackle coronavirus even as the COVID-19 positive cases continue to surge. The maximum number of coronavirus positive cases have been reported from Kerala and Maharashtra. Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have over 30 cases.
