New Delhi: The Delta and Delta Plus variants of the corona virus have caused a lot of devastation in the world including India. Now a new study has come out, due to which the concerns increase further.
A study by a Delhi-based hospital has claimed that the vaccine is eight times less effective against the delta variant of the coronavirus. This means that the Kovid vaccine is eight times less effective on the delta variant than the corona variant found in Wuhan.
The B.1.617.2 or delta variant of the corona virus has already been termed as ‘a form of anxiety’ by the World Health Organization. The study claimed, the dominance of the delta variant in India is driven by neutralizing antibodies and increased infectivity of the virus in already infected individuals.
More than 100 health workers have been studied at three centers in India including Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. Scientists from the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Diseases were also part of this study. Researchers have found that most of the health workers who had taken both doses of the vaccine were infected with the delta variant.
