The central government has asked both Maharashtra and Gujarat state governments to look into the matter of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and take the right action to reduce the number of deaths.
Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan recently held a COVID-19 meeting and went through the initiatives undertaken by the state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat to curb the spread of coronavirus disease.
The meeting held via video conferencing, directed the state governments to work more efficiently and focus on contact tracing, surveillance and quick treatment of coronavirus cases to prevent people from dying.
The meeting also took the matter of patients hiding the information about getting infected by coronavirus due to fear or taking help of medical facilities very late due to the societal shame associated with the deadly disease.
Harsh Vardhan encouraged the states to work on action plans that will help change the perception of common people towards the coronavirus disease in order to get timely diagnosis and treatment. This can be done by conducting more awareness campaigns about COVID-19 in a phased manner.
