Central government responsible for vaccine shortage: Serum Institute

New Delhi: Suresh Jadhav, executive director of Serum Institute of India, has blamed the central government is responsible for the acute shortage of corona vaccines during the corona virus second wave.

The Pune-based executive director of the company said on Friday that the government started vaccinating people of different age groups without assessing WHO guidelines and the stock of vaccines they hold.

In an health-related e-summit organized by Heal Health, Suresh Jadhav of Serum alleged that the government did not assess how much vaccine is available in India and what the World Health Organization guidelines are about it, many age groups People approved of vaccination. He said that the country should follow the WHO guidelines and accordingly vaccination should be done on priority basis.

Suresh Jadhav further said that initially 300 million people were to be given the vaccine, which required 600 million doses, but before we reached this goal without knowing how much vaccine we had available, the government opened the doors of vaccination to all people between the ages of 45 and 18 years.

He said, “This is the biggest lesson we learned. We should keep in mind the availability of the product and then use it judiciously.” He stressed that, “Vaccination is necessary, but people are vulnerable to infection even after being vaccinated, so people should be cautious and follow corona prevention rules.”
