New Delhi: The biological E vaccine manufactured in the country is expected to be 90 percent effective against Kovid and can prove to be a game changer in the war against the corona epidemic. A top doctor of the country gave this information to the advisory panel of the government. NK Arora, chairperson of the Central Government’s Kovid Working Group, said that this vaccine has reached the third phase of the trial and may be available from October. According to Dr. Arora, the vaccine of Biological E will be called Corbevax and it will be similar to Novavax vaccine. According to the company, Novavax is more than 90 percent effective against variants of Kovid. Novavax will be made in the country by Serum Institute of India (SII), which is also manufacturing Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Vaccine Covishield.
Dr. Arora said, ‘Novavax is very exciting. In the last few weeks, it came to light that India is going to produce about one billion doses in a year. It (Novavax’s production) will be easier and cheaper and its effectiveness will be around 90 per cent.’ A similar Indian vaccine is also in the Phase 3 trial, which is a vaccine of Biological E. This vaccine is safe for every age group and their effectiveness is high. Hyderabad-based Biological E in particular can prove to be of great potential, it can be sold at an unbelievable price of Rs 250 for two doses.

Dr. Arora said, ‘Bio E with similar efficacy to the Novavax vaccine may be available from the month of October. In other words, the efficiency of Bio E will be around 90 percent. They are soon moving towards the third phase trial. Dr. Arora is also the chairperson of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI), a group that works to advise the government on issues related to vaccination.
