What is rewarding company culture?

Company culture differs in every organization, whether it is small, big or medium, or even a micro one. For example, I run a micro writing business that offers writing services to websites that have been started from scratch just a few years down the line. My idea of setting up the business was to provide quality writing services to aspiring entrepreneurs who have newly launched their websites with content that is quite original and unique by nature. I don’t use any Copyscape or websites to check for uniqueness because I am aware that all the words that I am typing to form an article are being written from my heart and brain (that doesn’t remember exact wordings read on other websites).

So, the above forms my company culture wherein I have developed trust with my work and feel motivated to write as and when I get the writing assignments because I want my micro-business to grow and have more employees may be in the next 10 years. This company culture is based on the one-person show and individual thinking but when it comes to a group of employees who have been hired by an organization to achieve the work targets, their thinking and expectations would be different.

So, the company culture for a small or medium, or large organization has to solely depend on how well it keeps its employees engaged and satisfied by giving the right job profile, right compensation, and right rewards on a timely basis. See, it is not always about money. So, even if you are paying your employees quite well, more than they have asked for and your treatment towards them is not healthy, you are bound to face hurdles in your company’s growth.

I remember a local kirana uncle who used to treat his staff so well that he would give them a compulsory vacation once every year just so that they can go to their villages or visit religious places and spend quality time with their families. During the festive periods, he would get another set of staff who can work for him and give his existing staff holidays plus loads of gifts that they can enjoy with their families. It is his this gesture that even after 20 years, his staff continues to work for him with full loyalty and commitment despite they getting good job offers from other competitor shops in the same locality.

Another example of rewarding company culture is a company that runs awards night every year on the eve of Diwali. The medium-sized company makes sure to invite even the family members of the employees and give away awards to each employee for their contribution to the company. For them, the awards night was not to create competition among employees but in fact, foster brotherhood and harmony wherein every employee feels honored for whatever work they have done throughout the year. Each team leader makes sure to announce the best qualities of every employee of the team that makes them feel more appreciated and dedicated towards the company.
