New Delhi: Microsoft has chosen Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella as its new chairman. Satya Nadella has previously served as CEO at Microsoft for seven years. Microsoft said in a statement on Wednesday that 53-year-old Nadella will replace John Thompson and that Thompson will serve as principal independent director.
Microsoft said Nadella has made a mark in the company with his work and confidence. He was appointed as the CEO of the company in 2014. That same Thompson’s term as chairman has come to an end. The two have been discussing the new role since last fall.

While Nadella took over as CEO, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stepped down as the company’s chairman and his role at the company was reduced. In his place, Thompson was appointed the new president. The idea was that Nadella would benefit from several decades of technology executive Thompson’s presidency.
