The Finance Minister Nirmla Sitharaman yet again made it clear that petrol and diesel will remain beyoond the purview of the Goods and Services Tax.
However the tax on bio-diesel which is being used to mix up with diesel has been slashed off to five percent from 12 percent.

The Finance Minister after attending 45th meeting of GST Council in Lucknow categorically said the Council was of the opinion that that the current scenario was not conducive to bring petrol and diesel within the ambit of GST.

She however informed that the relaxation on the GST on medicines being used for the Covid-19 treatment will continue till December 2021.

“”The tax on the medicines used in the cancer treatment has been brought down to five percent from 12 percent” she further said. The GST Council also decided to give rebate on the national permit fees for the carrier goods vehicle. said Finance Minister.

In another move the GST Council has decided online service provider compnies like Swiggy, Zomato will pay the tax which will be realised on the delivery point. Nirmla Sitharaman also said that GST Council has decided that tax rates on footwear and garments will be reassessed. The tax on pen will be 18 percent while 12 percent tax will be imposed on equipments to be used in renewable energy .
