Petition filed in supreme court against whatsapp

New Delhi: The Federation of All India Traders (CAIT) filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Saturday against the new privacy policy of WhatsApp. CAIT has appealed to the Supreme Court to direct WhatsApp to withdraw this new policy. CAIT has stated in its petition that WhatsApp’s proposed privacy policy is a violation of various fundamental rights of citizens given by the Constitution.

CAIT has also said that to operate large technology companies like WhatsApp, the central government should formulate guidelines and formulate policies that protect the privacy of citizens and businesses. The petition specifically cited differences in the privacy policy of WhatsApp in European Union countries and India as to how the data of Indian users can be misused by such big technology companies.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp, which has come under the scanner for the new privacy policy, has announced to postpone its policy changes till May 15. Facebook-owned WhatsApp modified its privacy policy some time ago and was to be implemented from 8 February 2021. However, due to this new privacy policy, lakhs of people left WhatsApp and adopted a signal or telegram. The world’s richest man Elon Musk has tweeted and asked to adopt the signal.
