TIME Magazine released its list of the most influential companies in the world this year. Interestingly, the annual list has found the names of two Indian companies called the shopping app Meesho and National Payments Corporation of India – NPCI. The milestone has been described by Meesho’s founder Vidit Aatrey as a huge validation of the company’s work toward democratizing the e-commerce sector in India.
Aatrey also was grateful to his employees, investors, and customers of the company. He shared in a tweet message on Wednesday how he is finding words to be less impactful to thank his investors who believed in and supported their abilities without any conditions and helped them reach so far.
Earlier in June 2023, Meesho also crossed 500 million cumulative downloads, thus making it to be the fastest shopping app in the world, as per a report released by mobile data analytics provider data.ai.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is the main company that looks after retail payments in India. Another company to have found its entry in the TIME 2023 list is a US-based startup Polygon Labs, which made it easier for transactions to happen on the Ethereum blockchain quicker and more economically. The company’s founders Sandeep Nailwal and Jaynti Kanani have their origin in India.
In 2022, Nykaa led by Falguni Nayar had its ranking on TIME 100 most influential companies in the world.
The magazine TIME selects and ranks companies among its annual lists by asking for nominations from all over sectors and then runs polls on its global network of correspondents, contributors, and external experts. Later, the magazine’s editors check each company’s details and rank them on the basis of important factors such as influence, innovation, ambition, and overall success.
Meesho has been started by Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal on 13 August 2015. The company makes online shopping affordable and quicker. It provides access to compare different prices of different categories and allows customers to shop for anything they want at the lowest price. It has listed 50 lakh products on the shopping website with 650+ product categories. Meesho also makes it easier to buy new clothes, accessories, daily-use items for the home, etc.
