New Delhi : On the occasion of the Third World Week of Italian Cuisine, the Embassy of Italy New Delhi, in collaboration with K&S Partners, a boutique IP law firm hosted a seminar on geographical indications (GIs). The well-attended seminar discussed the protection and promotion of GIs in India, EU and Italy.
After the opening remarks by the Head of the Economic and Innovation Department of the Embassy of Italy, Alessandro De Masi, Mr. Jyoti Sagar, Managing Partner, K&S Partners set the tone for the seminar by sharing his insights on the importance of GIs, its impact on the local economy, the growing popularity of Italian cuisine and its appeal to the Indian palate. Mr. Luca Giavi, Director General of Italy’s Prosecco consortium, the well-known Italian GI, spoke on the protection and promotion of Prosecco wines. Col. Vincenzo Tuzi, Guardia di Finanza Attaché provided the overview of Italian GIs and its enforcement globally. Mr. Christophe De Vroey, First Counsellor, Trade and Economic Affairs, Delegation of the European Union gave a presentation on the GI system in the European Union. Ms. Latha Nair, a partner at K&S Partners provided a brief about Indian GI law and its provisions and the importance of promotion of GIs for India.
The sessions were moderated by Mr. Rajendra Kumar, Counsel & Senior Advisor at K&S Partners. As part of the seminar, there were exhibitions of GI products from both Italy and India. In light of the very positive outcome, the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi will organize future talks on the issue.
The seminar was followed by a delectable lunch served by the Italian embassy for the participants.
