New Delhi: Taiwan-based Wistron, a contract manufacturer for Apple Inc., will resume production in Kolar, Karnataka in the next few days. This information was given by Big and Medium Industries Minister Jagdish Shettar on Thursday. The factory at Narasupara in Kolar district has been closed since 12 December. At that time, about four thousand employees vandalized the facility on salary related issues.
The company had removed its vice president who oversees Indian operations. With this, he had admitted that some employees are not being paid on time or properly. The company apologized for this negligence. A team led by Wistron managing director Sudipto Gupta met Shettar at Vidhan Soudha and informed him about starting the reappointment process to start production at the facility. Shettar regretted that such an incident had happened.
Shettar said, however, that Karnataka is working hard to create the right environment for industries. He said that it is a matter of pleasure that the process of reappointment has started and production is ready to start again. He further informed that support will be given by the State Government and the Department of Industries. On February 9, Wistron Smart Devices CEO David Shen announced the resumption of operations in Kolar. He said that the company is working fully to raise the standards and correct the case.
