It has been almost two years since I have been to theatres to watch movies. Yes, due to the coronavirus lockdown restrictions, and the fear of getting the infection, I stayed away from visiting the theatres. I thought it is better to catch the recent movies on OTT platforms rather than going to theatres even when they were reopened for a couple of months last year. I like watching movies, you can call me a movie buff.

In fact, I was a movie reviewer between 2016 to 2017 and had reviewed 100 Bollywood and Hollywood movies with blind and deaf critics for a news website that dealt with disability issues. It was a really good experience to book a ticket, watch the movie, write a review and publish it on the website. That experience actually gave me good exposure to how films have plots, storylines and audiences as well. So, when I had been to Aamir, Salman, Shah Rukh, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Rajinikanth, Yash films, the auditorium of the theatre was full and I had to actually adjust with the people sitting beside me.

But when the movies were of upcoming actors or actresses and even new directors, the movie halls were empty or only with less audience occupancy. Release a family film during festivals and you will see that the crowd is just so huge. Whistles, laughter, comments, and the whole public that you would be able to see getting up to get their popcorn during the intervals. That’s the power of a superstar and blockbuster movie and if they are released in theatres, then only the movie makers actually earn in huge that they can share with all the stakeholders. They also get a huge crowd from all age groups and areas to give them a “paisa vasool” movie feedback.
All these reasons actually made me understand the importance of watching a film only in theatres and not on television or laptop or OTT platforms. A film looks good to watch simply on the big screen in a movie hall or mall and that’s what decides its actual fate!
