Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty who is a well-known celebrity in today’s times didn’t have it easy when he started off. Born on 16 June 1950, Mithun hails from Calcutta in West Bengal. After having completed his studies in chemistry, he attended and graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune. He entered the film industry by making his debut in the art-house drama Mrigayaa in 1976. The film made him get a good launchpad thus making him win his first National Film Award for Best Actor. In 1982, Mithun got commercial success by featuring the role of Jimmy in the film Disco Dancer.

Mithun has also tasted success in films like Surakksha, Sahhas, Wanted, Boxer, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Jallaad, Agneepath, Avinash, Dance Dance, Mujrim among others. It was in 1991 that he received another award for playing the part of Krishnan Iyer Nariyal Paniwala in Agneepath. He even won awards for playing his roles in Tahader Katha and Swami Vivekananda. You would be astonished that despite having a successful career, it was his work in 350 films that had many flops as well. However, that didn’t break his determination to act and give his best. He has acted in languages like Odia, Bhojpuri, Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Punjabi. No wonder his unbroken record as a lead actor in 1989 for having 19 movie releases in one year is commendable.

Mithun is the owner of the Monarch Group that focuses on the hospitality and educational sectors. He has also begun the production house Paparatzy Productions. It was in 1992 that Mithun joined hands with Dilip Kumar and Sunil Dutt to establish a trust to support the needy actors with the name CINTAA. His show Dance India Dance that airs on television is already a huge hit among the masses for the incredible performances of the contestants. Apart from acting and producing films, Mithun da has also worked as a politician.
