Why every political party in UP is vying for Brahmin voters

Lucknow: With UP election 2022 drawing near, all the political parties in Uttar Pradesh are striving hard to get a pie of the upper caste Hindu voters especially the Brahmin votes.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is trying to repeat it magic formula of social engineering of 2007 when they came to the power riding on the wave of social engineering with the formidable combination of Dalit and Brahmin voters gaining 206 seats in UP Vidhan Sabha out of 403 seats with 30.43% and surprised everyone.

BSP supremo Mayawati, under the aegis of its reliable General secretary Satish Chandra Mishra is holding “Brahman Sammelan” popularly known as ‘Prabudh Varg’  sammelan  to get the votes of the Brahmin community in UP. Who is believed to be annoyed with BJP under the Yogi government due to its undue preference to the Thakurs  (Kshatriya) community in the last four and half years?

Last Sunday, Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav too held a meeting with its top five Brahmin leaders at his residence to chalk out the strategy to counter BSP’s Brahmin outreach. Since SP chief feels that discriminated Brahmin voters if convinced properly can vote against BJP due to problems they faced under Yogi’s regime in Uttar Pradesh.

SP after BSP too is wooing Brahmin voters ahead of 2022 UP elections

Meanwhile, BSP is moving forward in its community outreach programs through a well-devised strategy where they have divided it into three parts; starting from the Ayodhya region after seeking blessings from Lord Rama. Their next destination will be Varanasi and in the last leg, it will reach Vrindavan and Mathura region so that majority of the community can be reached in time before the UP assembly elections kick starts. BSP feels that with 23% Dalit voters if they can add up this 13 % Brahmin voter to its fold then it will become a combination difficult to beat in UP along with some Muslim voters.

Meanwhile, SP is treading on the same path of BSP and BJP to attract the Brahmin voters to its fold through district-level Brahmin community outreach programs and adopting soft Hindutva after attracting criticism for appeasement.

However, UP elections are still more than six months away but all the political parties are trying their best to add some new voters so that they can cross the line of Vidhan Sabha with the required numbers. While BJP seems to be unperturbed and the party and its cadre are moving ahead with their planned strategy for the 2022 UP elections.
