BJP created history in Assam, returned to power for the second time in a row

New Delhi: BJP is going to hold the power of Assam for the second consecutive time. The ruling BJP-led NDA led in 77 seats out of 126 assembly seats. BJP is leading in 58 seats while its allies Assam Gana Parishad is leading in 11 and United Peoples Party-Liberal 8 seats. At the same time, the Congress-led opposition coalition ‘Mahajot’ seems to be reduced to 45 seats. The results have not been officially announced yet.

The BJP has created history with the assembly election victory in Assam. For the first time in Assam, a non-Congress government has returned to power for the second time in a row. Explain that the first non-Congress government in the state was formed in the year 1978. At that time the Janata Party had captured power. This government fell after 18 months. After this, between 1985 and 1996, the Assam Gana Parishad government was formed in the state. However, the Asom Gana Parishad did not remain in power continuously. At the same time, Congress government was formed in Assam continuously from the year 2001 to 2016.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have won the elections in a big way. Sonowal defeated Congress candidate Rajib Lochan Pegu in Majuli seat by a margin of 43 thousand 192 votes. Sarma won the assembly election by a margin of over one lakh votes. He retained the Jalukbari seat by defeating Romain Chandra Borthakur of Congress by 1,01,911 votes.
