Being a candidate I can call anyone, nothing wrong in this: Mamata

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that calling a former leader of her party (now in BJP) is not a crime. Mamta said that they should be held guilty who broke the trust and leaked the conversation. Let me tell you that Mamta Banerjee had a conversation with Pralay Pal.

‘Yes, I called the BJP leader in Nandigram. I got feedback that someone wants to talk to me. So I talked to him after taking his number. I told him that he should be well, take care of his health. What is my crime? ‘ Mamta Banerjee said this after finishing the election campaign in Nandigram.

She also said, ‘Being a candidate of the constituency, I can take help of any voter, I can call anyone. There is nothing wrong in this. This is not a crime. But if someone leaks the conversation, then it is a crime. Action should be taken not against me, but against the person who leaked my conversation. This audio clip was leaked on Saturday.

In the audio, Mamta Banerjee can be heard saying to Pal, ‘You should help us in Nandigram. Look, I know you have some complaints, but this is mostly due to the Adhikari who never let me come to Nandigram or East Midnapore. I will handle everything from now on. ‘

After this, Pal replies to Mamta Banerjee, ‘Didi you called me and I liked it. But I cannot cheat the Adhikari because they stood with me all the time. He later told the media that he turned down Mamata Banerjee’s request to return to TMC. He said, ‘I work for the BJP now and cannot cheat them.’
