Aprajita shared her views on this year’s Women’s Day theme of “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”, which can be read below:

Coming from a household of being raised by a single parent and an elder sister, I still cannot relate to the stories on Television and social media about Gender Inequality and how girls are still considered as a curse in the society.
My sister and I were raised as how daughters should be raised. With utmost love and care, with a feeling of trust and full freedom to decide the course of our lives. Sometimes I see a glint of pride in my mother’s eyes for not letting us choose the conventional careers for ourselves.
But can I shut my eyes to where the world is heading and live in my tiny cocoon I call my home?
Should I not be the voice for the ones who have lost theirs?
Should I completely disregard the feelings of oppression women go through on daily basis at home and at work?
Should I be silent and accept this as their “destiny”?
I have never met a gender who has a strong mental & emotional strength and tenacity to hold onto the roots and yet move ahead with conviction.
The act to balance house life and work life. The art to accept new relations and make them your own, the struggle to leave the house of one’s own family and move to a house of complete strangers and calling it a family, the process of procreation and preparation of body before and after- to bringing a new life in this world and making your life revolve around it as if its your world.
These might not even be termed as real struggles by some as this is considered normalcy & natural. These are the responsibilities a girl is born with, accepts it and faithfully fulfills them till she dies.
Do we need a vote of appreciation or a thank you note for being Wonder Women?
Women and men both were created not to compete but to equally survive amongst each other and provide where one gender lacks.
I believe we are not looking for any accolades as women but just an acceptance of equality.

Bhagavad Gita quotes:
समो हम सर्व भूतेशु न मे देवेशयो सति न प्रिय:।
ये भजनती तु मम भक्त्या मयी ते टेशु चप्याहम।।
Translation:
I am equally disposed to all living beings.
I am neither inimical nor partial to anyone.
The devotees who worship me with love reside in me and I reside in them.
