COVID-19, The lingering after effects
Is COVID 19 brain fog and memory loss real and if so how severe can it be? These are the questions troubling me nowadays but most important one is ‘how long will the post covid effects last?‘
It’s been a month and a half since I have recovered from COVID with home care. Like everyone else who has been hit by COVID but was spared from gruesome hospital visits and ventilators I do count my blessings and say grace.
Being well aware of post recovery symptoms I have been taking a lot of care, especially by not over exerting myself. But lately a strange thing caught my notice – I am forgetting things ! From basic ones like – feeding my dog, forgetting laundry in the machine to major ones like forgetting work deadlines and appointments.
These days at times I rush to another room just to halt in middle and realise that I have no clue what I wanted from there.
Being an extremely mindful person and also a woman I have always had a razor sharp memory. My brain has always had enough space to remember birthdays, anniversaries, correct placement of every tiny thing in my house, who said what and when.

So far the symptoms though noticeable are nothing close to severe. Hence, I am hopeful that the brain fog will and forgetfulness will recede in a few months.
But the situation I am facing, though on a minimal level, really makes me question the severity of COVID-19 effects and after effects.
In the second wave many young lives have been lost. Some patients who had recovered and returned home after supposed successful treatment lost their lives in a few days to heart stroke, few have their lungs badly damaged. Even months after recovery some are still waiting for their sense of taste and smell to return, muscle pain to cease and fatigue to end.
However, at the same time we see people crowding hill stations, malls and markets no sooner the restrictions were eased. Masks have once again become a suffocating accessory for majority, social distancing seems to be losing its importance again.
It’s well admitted that staying restricted for so long is frustrating and people do need change, a breath of fresh air.
But comparing the effects, after effects ,and what all is at stake are these trips , weekend outings, celebrations worth the risk ? There are people who have to venture out for work they don’t have a choice but rest of us do.

People have been through extremely tough and painful times during this pandemic and the only way to not let it repeat is by continuing practicing COVID safety measures. I surely am not going to forget this one and I hope even you don’t.
