In a political atmosphere where the ruling party specially its two top leaders the Prime Minister and his so called Chanakya and home minister are hell bent upon winning elections through any fair and foul mean and in case of defeat in number game have no hesitation in purchasing the loyalty of elected members to install their party’s government, when no hold barred allegation on opposition leaders including hitting below the belt, when stooping low at the part of BJP’s top to bottom leadership knew no limit. All this had become norm of the game when money, muscle and state power is vulgarly displayed to win the election when every norm of the game is shamelessly broken when the election watch dog the Election Commission becomes a silent spectator and connives with the ruling party, when winning election is more important than saving human lives in pandemic, the decision of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to stop campaigning in Bengal and cancel all his planned rallies is a like a breeze.
Rahul Gandhi has once again showed that he is the tallest leader facing and fighting the political pigmies. He has proved that politics for him is just not winning the election through any foul, unethical, vulgar and inhuman means but a path to serve the people and stand firmly for his ideals and humanity. He is a man and a leader of steel like nerve. The entire government machinery, RSS’s best minds resources and ability of rumour mongering, whispering campaign and character assassination by spineless media is behind him, but he is firmly standing on his foots and fighting like a warrior to save the idea of India and our constitutional democracy. Be it demonetization, GST, fight against pandemic, economic crisis, foreign specially China policy, protection of country’s social fabric and other parts of state craft Rahul Gandhi has shown that he has far better understanding of all these issues facing the nation than our prime minster and other leaders who are expert only in rhetoric and blame game. Rahul Gandhi has a vision for an inclusive nation whereas Modi’s India vision is confined to Golwalkar’s Hindu rashtra.
On the one hand Covid 19 has spread, lakhs of people are affected and thousands have died. The entire health and medical system of the country has collapsed people are dying for want of oxygen and other life saving medicines, for the first time we are hearing of que in burial grounds, not only hospitals but even burial ground have no space but on the other hand prime minister, union home minister and other stalwarts of BJP are busy in electioneering in Bengal. They are bringing out road shows that are joined by thousands of people, they are addressing rallies where too thousands of people are transported without any care for their health. No mask, no physical distance, no sanitization and no adherence to any other Covid 19 protocol. At a time when prime minister is expected to lead the fight against Corona from front he is only leading his party in Bengal to ensure its victory. It is possible only in this country under the leadership of this prime minister that a state chief minister is crying for help he is again and again ringing to prime minister’s office (PMO) and is told by the officers that the prime minister is busy in Bengal electioneering and when he will come back your message will be conveyed to him.
During ongoing assembly election specially in Bengal the Modi government, the Election Commission and even Supreme Court have failed the nation. From 8 phase polling schedule to issuing full page advertisement displaying Amar Jawan Jyoti and lastly rejecting all party (minus BJP) suggestion to hold remaining phases of polling on one day the Election Commission has not only badly compromised its impartiality but have also played with the lives of lakhs of Bengalis just to please its political masters. Both Election Commission and Supreme Court are maintaining criminal silence on open violation of Covid protocols endangering the lives of lakhs and lakhs of Bengalis. Both of them couldn’t even muster courage to issue notices to Modi ji Amit Shah ji and other BJP leaders for violating model code of conduct and Covid protocols.
Rahul Gandhi by cancelling his electioneering schedule in Bengal has not only displayed humane side of his personality but have also shown a path to other politicians and have tried to shake the conscience of our constitutional bodies who have compromised their independence impartiality and constitutional obligations.
