Prime Minister Narendra Modi stunned everyone by recognising Sotiganj in Meerut at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur today. The stage was told by Prime Minister Modi that if an automobile was stolen anywhere in the country, it was chopped in Sotiganj, Meerut. Previously, governments resisted shutting down the illegal trade that had been going on for decades. However, the Yogi administration put an end to the unlawful chopping of stolen automobiles in Sotiganj, Meerut. Many people are shocked by the Prime Minister of the country’s reference of Meerut’s Sotiganj in a public forum. PM Modi highlighted the Yogi government’s victory in stopping illegal cutting of automobiles operating in Sotiganj, and he did not exaggerate when he said this. Because neither the government nor the police administration has been able to put a stop to the illegal automobile cutting industry, which has existed for decades. We need to go back a little to understand why Prime Minister Modi mentioned Sotiganj.

There was also a horrible stain of a black enterprise on the forehead of the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, which is famed for Kachi and Rewari-Gajak all throughout the nation. This blemish was caused by the unlawful cutting of stolen autos. Not just from Meerut, but also from states bordering Uttar Pradesh, such as Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and others, used to flock to Sotiganj in Meerut to be cut. It is stated that no matter how large a car is, its components are separated within 10 minutes after arriving in Sotiganj. After that, the car spare parts are sent to the several scrap godowns spread across Sotiganj. Locating a car after ten minutes was like to finding a needle in a haystack. People used to travel to Sotiganj in quest of vehicle spare parts that could not be found anywhere else in the country, and the black market of Sotiganj did not fail them. All spare parts, whether for an old model or a new top model, were accessible in Sotiganj’s junkyards.

The procedure of selling automobile spare parts, which began in a few stores in the 1990s, has grown to over 300 outlets now. Every year, billions of rupees worth of spare parts are sold at Sotiganj, a kilometer-long stretch of the Delhi Road. There is no record of this illegal firm in number two, and the government receives no income. Today, even the addicts who sit in the smallest business have become billionaires. The attachment of certain junks’ dwellings was done as part of the Yogi government’s effort against the junks of Sotiganj. The police’ eyes were likewise wide open when they saw the magnificent décor of the houses of these junkyards. The residences of these junkyards revealed just how much money is made in this illegal trade.

Now the question is why, while the entire country was aware that replacement parts were being sold openly in Sotiganj through illegal car cutting, no action was done against them. This is because practically all of Sotiganj’s scrap scrappers are members of the minority population. The link between the addicts and the ruling elite has never changed, despite the fact that they became billionaires by selling stolen auto spare parts. Whatever the cause, no political party has dared to move on Sotiganj despite being in power, whether it be greed of the minority community’s vote bank or a portion in the large revenues from it. Occasionally, an officer had the confidence to do so, only to be reassigned a few days later. Knowing everything, the police and administrative authorities decided it was best to keep silent in such a circumstance, and the black business continued at its own speed.

Rajendra Agrawal, a Lok Sabha member from Meerut-Hapur, addressed the issue of Sotiganj several times in Parliament, but no action was taken by the administrations at the time. Let us now discuss the actions performed in response to these blights. The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh was constantly tightening the noose upon individuals doing illicit business. The Yogi government’s term is coming to an end as well. In such a scenario, the Yogi administration shown bravery by dispatching Prabhakar Chaudhary as SSP to Meerut to deal with the garbage of the minority population. As soon as Prabhakar Chaudhary came over as SSP, he began tightening the noose on Sotiganj’s junks.

He began by taking action against the cops who were defending these trash cans. NSP Prabhakar Choudhary suspended the officers who informed the junkies about the searches, provided stolen vehicles, and provided them with security. SSP took action against 170 police officers who had been identified as targets. After that, I started looking into the history of junks to see if weak connections were there. The police began searching the warehouses of Sotiganj’s junkyards with the cooperation of the government and a strong resolve. The junkies of Sotiganj were agitated as a result of the police’s actions, and they began fleeing the region. The police activity did not stop there; Sotiganj’s addicts were apprehended and imprisoned. The attachment action on many junks’ dwellings put pressure on the remainder of the junks.
