New Delhi: The execution of Nirbhaya convicts has been deferred once again. In the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, the hanging of the four convicts, that is to be held on Tuesday, March 3 at 6 am, will no longer be held.

The plea of Pawan Gupta, convicted in the Nirbhaya case, was heard in the Patiala House Court, after which the court has stayed the execution till further orders. Now the court will issue a new date of death warrant.

Once again, the culprits of the case were hanged. Explain that for the third time the hanging of the culprits has been postponed in this case. Nirbhaya’s parents were present in the court during this time.

At the same time, Pawan Kumar Gupta, one of the four convicts facing death sentence in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, filed his mercy petition before President Ram Nath Kovind, which has been rejected by the President.

Advocate AP Singh, appearing for the convicts during the hearing of the case, told the court that after Pawan’s curative petition was dismissed, he still had the option of mercy petition. Apart from this, the mercy petition of Akshay has not been decided, so the hanging should be banned on March 3. On this, the judge asked if there is any concrete reason to stop the hanging.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana, while dismissing the petition, also said that he cannot ban the hanging. During the hearing, the public prosecutor told the court that once the mercy petition was rejected, why did Akshay again file a mercy petition? Now that the curative petition has been rejected by the Supreme Court, the hearing has started again in Patiala House.

During the hearing, the government lawyer said that Akshay had filed a mercy petition on 31 January. The next day he wrote a letter that some documents in the petition are incomplete, so he wants to file the petition again. The government lawyer argued that the jail administration had submitted all the documents and the petition was filed only on 3 February. He also argued that the President rejected his mercy petition on February 5 only after looking into all aspects.
