Prayagraj: There were fierce demonstrations and violence in several cities of Uttar Pradesh against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Bijnor administration has received a setback from the Allahabad High Court in a case of damage to public property during the protest. The High Court has stayed the recovery notice issued to the protesters by Bijnor ADM. The notice was issued by the ADM on February 24.
Hearing on a petition filed by Javed Aftab and three other petitioners on Sunday, a division bench of Justices Manoj Mishra and Justice Deepak Verma issued the directive. The court has also sought a response from the state government on the petition. Earlier, the court had also stayed in the case of Mohammad Faizan. On the basis of Faizan case, the High Court has also stayed the recovery notice in this case. The court has said that the next hearing on the case will be held on April 20.
On the other hand, the High Court has reserved the verdict in the matter of posting posters of CAA violence by the Uttar Pradesh government. A bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Ramesh Sinha will pronounce its verdict in the case at 2 pm on Monday. The High Court, taking suo motu cognizance of this case, held a hearing on a holiday on Sunday.
Explain that during the demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Act, the state government is strict on the people involved in the violence. In view of this, the district administration in Lucknow has put large hoardings at the intersections of the city with the names, photos and addresses of the vandalists. According to the hoarding, after the conviction of the accused, the property will be attached if those found guilty do not pay the fine by the due date.
