Lucknow: It was all women’s day in the UP Assembly on Thursday. The male law-makers did not speak much, as women legislators celebrated the special “Shakti Satra” reserved for them. Most of them were not well-versed with the rules and regulations of the assembly, but they spoke on women empowerment and sang a song. Many of them also recited poems to prove their points.

Before the beginning of the special session, Chief Minister Adityanath said that it was a historic day, when a special session was reserved for the female members of the House.  He also appealed to Speaker Satish Mahana to relax the rules for women members and allow them to speak as much as possible. Adityanath also delivered a speech on women empowerment.

Leader of opposition Akhilesh Yadav said that the changes were visible and contribution of women in various fields was increasing. Therefore, their contributions cannot be ignored, he said, adding that it was Uttar Pradesh which gave the first woman chief minister, Sucheta Kripalini. He also voiced concern over rising incidents of crime against women in the state.
